Job growth in Washington County far exceeded what is occurring nationwide, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today.

The bureau said the number of jobs in Washington County increased by 3.8 percent in the 12-month period ending in September 2012. Only nine of the nation’s 327 other counties with more than 75,000 jobs grew at a faster clip than Washington County. There are 93,800 people working in the county with Tyson Foods in Springdale and the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville among the county’s largest employers.

The nation’s overall job growth was 1.6 percent.

The number of jobs in Benton County, the home of J.B. Hunt Transport Services in Lowell, Walmart Stores in Bentonville and Simmons Foods in Siloam Springs, increased by 0.9 percent. There are 97,100 people employed in Benton County.
