A select group of Northwest Arkansas university students are taking part in a fall internship program thanks to a contribution from AT&T.
The contribution helps allow 20 students at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville and John Brown University in Siloam Springs to work throughout the fall semester at local small businesses. The Northwest Arkansas Council applied for and then administered the contribution by helping match students with companies.
The contribution’s purpose is to support a region-wide, small-business intern program for college students in Northwest Arkansas that will focus on increasing college graduation rates and expanding entrepreneurship within the young adult population.
“A contribution such as the one provided by AT&T helps expose students in our community to some of the excellent small companies in Northwest Arkansas, and we think that exposure will ensure that students recognize what’s available to them as long-term employment opportunities after they graduate,” said Mike Harvey, the Northwest Arkansas Council’s chief operating officer. “Part of finding an excellent, local job is having a good understanding of what’s available right here in Northwest Arkansas.”
