A ribbon-cutting ceremony will celebrate the opening of two new sections of the Razorback Regional Greenway in Northwest Arkansas.
The sections, both in Fayetteville, are key pieces of the 36-mile trail from south Fayetteville to Bella Vista that’s gradually nearing completion.
The ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday to celebrate the expansion of the trail network and to commemorate the completion of all regional greenway sections within Fayetteville.
The event will be held at the new trail bridge crossing Clear Creek, just north of the Northwest Arkansas Mall. Here’s a map to the site of the celebration.
Participants are encouraged to walk or ride bikes to the event. Motor vehicle parking is available at the large parking lot on the west side of Northwest Arkansas Mall property, and it’s a short walk on the new trail down the hill to the bridge. Signs will be posted along the trails and streets to guide people to the new trail and ribbon cutting celebration. The ceremony will be followed by guided bike tours, a community run, and a history walk. Bike vendors and music will also be a feature at this event.
The new sections of the Razorback Regional Greenway include the 3-mile Clear Creek Trail that extends to Scull Creek Trail north into the city of Johnson, then east to connect to Lake Fayetteville Trail. By the end of this year, the greenway will extend north from Lake Fayetteville through Springdale and on north to Bella Vista. Several northern sections of the trail are already complete in Rogers, Lowell, and Bentonville.
In addition, a half-mile extension of the Frisco Trail south to Walker Park is complete, including a tunnel under Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in south Fayetteville.
Both of the new trail sections have been constructed by Boulder Construction with funding through the Northwest Arkansas Regional Planning Commission. The Clear Creek Trail was made possible through a partnership between the Walton Family Foundation, the city of Fayetteville and the Johnson Clear Creek Trails Association.
