Best Tradition in ‘All of Sports’ Takes Place In Northwest Arkansas

By October 27, 2014February 2nd, 2021No Comments

People across the nation know University of Arkansas fans love to “Call those Hogs,” but one of the best traditions in sports takes place this week at another Northwest Arkansas university.

Moreover, national audiences will hear all about it, too.

John Brown University plays its men’s basketball season opener on Saturday, Nov. 1 and Golden Eagle fans in a jam-packed arena will shower the court with streaming toilet paper rolls after the home team’s first basket. It’s a tradition that will play out for the 34th consecutive year.

The well-known TP Game has drawn national attention to the university in Siloam Springs, being featured on Yahoo! Sports, CBS Sports, Deadspin, Sporting News, and ESPN. ESPN referred to the TP game as the “best technical foul in all of sports.”

One of our favorite stories about the TP game was aired by local television station KFSM in 2012.

Saturday night’s game against non-conference opponent Central Baptist starts JBU’s 30-game NAIA schedule. The Golden Eagles play in the 10-team Sooner Athletics Conference against schools in Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas.

Special thanks to our major investors for their support of the Northwest Arkansas Council and our work in the region:
