Fortune 500: Walmart Still No. 1; Tyson Foods Rises to No. 83

Two of the three Fortune 500 companies based in Northwest Arkansas moved up significantly on the publication’s annual list of largest companies.

It would have been impossible for No. 1 Walmart Stores to move up on the magazine’s annual list, of course. The Bentonville-based company sits in the No. 1 spot for the third consecutive year.

This year’s Fortune ranking is based on companies’ revenue last year.

Both Tyson Foods of Springdale and J.B. Hunt Transport Services of Lowell took major leaps forward.

No. 83 Tyson Foods moved up from No. 93 largely due to its acquisition of Hillshire Farms last year.

J.B. Hunt now ranks at No. 434, moving up 20 spots from where it was ranked by Fortune last year.

Walmart, Tyson Foods and J.B. Hunt are among seven Arkansas companies to make the Fortune 500 list.
