Northwest Arkansas continues to expand its reputation as a leading destination for outdoor recreation and hospitality. OZ Trails recently announced plans for the region’s first chairlift-served downhill mountain bike park, set to enhance the area’s extensive cycling infrastructure. Additionally, The Compton, a new independent lifestyle hotel, is scheduled to open in late fall 2025 in downtown Bentonville. These projects reinforce the region’s commitment to economic growth, tourism and community engagement.
The new OZ Trails Bike Park, located at the junction of Bella Vista and Bentonville along U.S. 71, will feature more than 20 miles of gravity trails designed to accommodate riders of all skill levels. Construction is expected to begin in spring 2025. The park will integrate a state-of-the-art Leitner-Poma high-speed chairlift, offering year-round lift access and a seamless connection to the existing OZ Trails network.
The park’s key amenities will include:
- OZ Trails HQ with full-service dining facilities.
- Comprehensive bike shop and rental center.
- Community plaza and gathering spaces.
- A purpose-built pump track.
- Dedicated hiking trail.
- Art installations throughout the property.
“As Northwest Arkansas’ first purpose-built gravity cycling facility, the park’s location strengthens the natural connection between Bella Vista and Bentonville, positioning both communities as premier destinations for outdoor recreation,” said Tom Walton, CEO of Runway Group.
The Compton, a 142-room hotel developed by Blue Crane, will provide a distinctive hospitality experience in downtown Bentonville. Paying homage to Dr. Neil Compton, a conservationist instrumental in preserving the Buffalo National River, the hotel will serve as a home base for outdoor enthusiasts, business travelers and culture seekers.
Located on Bentonville’s historic square, The Compton will be adjacent to Dave Peel Park and a new pedestrian promenade connecting downtown to Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. Designed by Marvel Design and BRR Architecture, with interiors by Créme Design, the hotel will combine modern comfort with the character of the Ozarks.
Key features of The Compton will include:
- A skylit lobby with open seating areas.
- Two retail spaces within the hotel.
- A bike valet, wash station and secure storage catering to cyclists.
- 3,750 square feet of meeting and event space, including a grand ballroom with floor-to-ceiling windows.
Ropeswing Hospitality Group will oversee the hotel’s dining experiences, including Field Notes, an all-day café, and Sestina, a refined Arkansas steakhouse. A full-service cocktail bar overlooking Bentonville Square will round out the hotel’s food and beverage offerings.
“The Compton isn’t just a place to stay—it’s a gateway to Bentonville and the Ozarks,” said Bashar Wali, CEO of Practice Hospitality. “We want guests to connect with the region and leave with a meaningful experience.”
“These projects represent a major step forward for Northwest Arkansas,” said Nelson Peacock, president and CEO of the Northwest Arkansas Council. “Investments like the OZ Trails Bike Park and The Compton not only enhance our region’s appeal as a premier outdoor and cultural destination but also drive economic growth, attract new talent and improve quality of life for residents and visitors alike.”
Both the OZ Trails Bike Park and The Compton will contribute to the region’s continued economic growth and tourism appeal. Brandom Gengelbach, CEO of the Greater Bentonville Area Chamber of Commerce, noted the impact of these developments on business and lifestyle opportunities.
“Expanding outdoor and hospitality options will attract more visitors and residents, reinforcing Northwest Arkansas as a premier destination for recreation and commerce,” he said.
Construction on the OZ Trails Bike Park is set to begin in spring 2025, with The Compton scheduled to open in late fall 2025. These investments further position the region as a hub for adventure, culture and economic development.
