Northwest Arkansas finished ahead of far larger metropolitan areas in a new Forbes magazine list of Best Places for Business and Careers, topping New York, Boston, Phoenix, Washington, D.C. and several others.

The new list published today put Northwest Arkansas (the Fayetteville-Springdale-Rogers Metropolitan Area) at No. 37 overall in its list of 200 metropolitan areas. The region ranked 27th in job growth.

Raleigh, N.C., finished No. 1 overall, followed by Des Moines, Iowa; Provo Utah; and Denver.

Little Rock was the only other Arkansas region ranked in the top 50, finishing at No. 46.

In Northwest Arkansas, Forbes noted that the region’s unemployment is a low 5 percent and its cost of living is 9.7 percent below the national average. A comparison of the information provided by Forbes shows the only one metropolitan area ranked ahead of Northwest Arkansas (Warren, Mich.) had less expensive homes. The median home price in Northwest Arkansas was listed as $119,000.
