Arkansas Gov. Mike Beebe this week appointed Northwest Arkansas Council employee Kim Davis to serve as a member of the State Board of Education.
Davis, a Fayetteville resident who worked on many of the education- and workforce-related components of the Greater Northwest Arkansas Development Strategy, will continue his work at the Council. He is now the Council’s director of economic development and external relations.
The seven-year term of Davis on the State Board of Education expires in 2021. He replaces Brenda Gullett of Fayetteville.
He graduated from Redeemer High School in New Orleans, and received a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in education from the University of Saint Thomas in Houston. In addition, he received a certification in education administration from Manhattan College in New York City.
Davis taught in Houston schools for four years, and then spent six years as a teacher and school administrator in New York City.
Davis was previously the Council’s director of education and workforce and led a team of educators and business leaders in partnerships that produced more than $1.5 million for secondary education support for students, the establishment of the Pea Ridge Business and Manufacturing Academy, and a regionwide program called Reach Out NWA to reduce student dropout rates.
